She always has something to say

Yesterday as Sarah and I were heading home from her eye appointment she makes a comment out of the blue. She says, "Why is there so much killing? I don't like it." As I'm trying to understand what prompted this thought, she continued, "It's weird, they (meaning the criminals) were so sweet and cute when they were little and then they grew up." She is always thinking. We went on to have a great little discussion on "choosing the right" and what happens when we don't make good choices.

Wow... very deep. And true. Everyone starts out sweet and cute. She is much like my Grant - he hits us with those deep thoughts out of the blue also. I like it. It's beyond me, I never think things like that (I mean, I do, but not at their age :)

When you add free agency with parents who don't teach right from wrong, teach by example that kids aren't responsible for what they do, run interference for their kids when they do get in trouble (school is wrong, you are right), show "love" by setting no boundries, and expect "society" to raise their kids, you get criminals. That's definitely a generalization, and it doesn't apply to all of them, but it's a pretty good start. Thank heavens for kids who are raised to know right from wrong and use that knowledge in thought processes like what Sarah said.
