So last weekend we had a service auction for an enrichment activity. Lots of fun and great items and services were offered. In order to get the money for the bidding, we had to complete a lengthy form of questions. For example, "do you pray daily, do you exercise, do you do your visiting teaching, etc." One item for marking was, "You have never received a ticket." I am 36 yrs old and still belonged to the no-speeding-ticket club. As it turned out, I was the only one at my full table to hold such an honor. Yes, I enjoyed the gasps of, "no way....you're kidding....you're so lucky." Maybe I enjoyed it a little too much and yes, I forgot to knock on wood. Less than twelve hours later karma smacked me right in the face. I GOT MY FIRST SPEEDING TICKET!!! Why did I have to vocalize this the night before? I sent that little bit of information out into the universe and the universe heard me loud and clear. Guess I needed a little humbling....about $95 worth of humbling!! When I got pulled over I was so stunned about the strange timing that I was laughing. I told the cop my story (and asked for a warning but he declined). He was amused and replied, "You've only been lucky. We all speed." I cannot deny the truth in that.
(I did manage a photo (thank you google) for this post even if my computer still stinks)

Oh Man! That stinks. I hope you scored something great from the service auction. Maybe a nice home cooked meal or free babysitting?
Julie that is so funny...well at least to the rest of us ticket holders welcome to the club. You should feel really lucky that your ticket was only $95 here in CA they are 2 to 3 times that.
Tell me that you took that picture of the cop as he was handing out your virgin breaking first ticket
A good laugh! I cannot believe that!
Julie, So sorry!! and yes - I guess welcome to the club!? Just the other day I got pulled over with a written warning for running a stopsign - on my way to the Oakwood bldg. How lame is that!? I did get lucky that time - but it hasnt always been the case.
It has been a bit crazy here. Sorry I didnt call you back. I will get the kids back in school after spring break and call you during the day. And yes - cant wait to see you!
We have had computer issues too. HATE IT!!
ROFLMBO! Man, that really bites. It's strange the way things like that happen. Too bad there isn't a way to know if the auction had been 1 day later if you'd have not been stopped. I don't think it's worth $95.00 for a fun story for church today, is it. Anyway, you should come to Idaho before you get your next ticket... it's only $75.00 for speeding 1 to 15 over, and then it jumps to 142.50 for 16 or more (although if it's too high, it's reckless and that is costly). And that is with a major price increase about 2 years ago! We are pretty cheap for tickets.
I know my last ticket cost me $180 or so (18 years ago). I well and truly earned that one, too. And got lucky. He didn't get a good read on me until I had seen him and slammed on the brakes. I could have badged out of it, but I didn't dare try... I deserved it. Now that I do a lot more ticket writing, I drive much more sanely. I won't do anything I'd write someone else for so I don't feel hypocritical.
Have a good one!
Of course, I also get really awesome doses of running code at 130 mph at work, too! Gotta love it!
